Meet James
Helping busy people over 40 build healthier, stronger lives
Hi, I'm James.
I'm the owner of Imagine Fitness, and for more than 16 years I've been helping busy people improve their health and fitness.
Hi, I'm James.
Over that time I've realised something.
Most people don't struggle because they don't know what to do.
They struggle because life gets in the way.
Work gets busy. Family comes first. Stress builds up. Healthy habits slowly disappear.
That's exactly why I coach the way I do.
Not with quick fixes, restrictive diets or impossible workout plans.
Instead, I help people build habits they can stick to, even when life gets hectic.
Why I started Imagine Fitness
I wanted to create somewhere that felt different to a commercial gym.
A place where people could train without feeling judged or intimidated.
Where they could ask questions, work at their own pace and feel supported every step of the way.
Many of my clients had tried gyms before. Some had worked with trainers. Others had followed diets that worked for a few weeks before everything slipped back to where it started.
They didn't need more information.
They needed a plan that fitted around real life.
That's what Imagine Fitness is all about.
Why I specialise in people over 40
Most of my clients are in their 40s, 50s and 60s.
They're professionals, business owners, parents and grandparents.
They're often successful in their careers, but their own health has gradually slipped down the priority list.
They don't want to spend hours in the gym. They don't want to survive on chicken and broccoli. They simply want to feel better.
More energy. Less stiffness. More confidence. A body they can rely on for years to come.
My approach
I'm a big believer that consistency beats perfection.
You'll never hear me tell you to give up all your favourite foods.
In fact, I'm human too. I don't love exercise and I do love food.
We'll focus on strength training, better daily habits, eating well most of the time, sleeping a little more, managing stress and finding ways to stay consistent when life inevitably gets busy.
Small improvements. Repeated over time. That's where lasting results come from.
More than personal training
Exercise is only part of the picture.
Real change happens when you understand why your habits keep slipping and how to build new ones that actually last.
That's why my coaching includes accountability, behaviour change and practical strategies to help you stay on track long after the motivation has worn off.
My goal isn't to help you get fit for a holiday. It's to help you build a healthier lifestyle you can maintain for years.
Why clients stay
Some of my clients have been with me for more than 10 years.
Not because every week is perfect. Because life isn't perfect.
There are busy periods at work. Family commitments. Holidays. Injuries. Stress.
The goal isn't to avoid those things. It's to learn how to keep moving forwards despite them.
That's what long-term success looks like.
A little about me
I'm English with Kiwi kids and have called Auckland home since 2007.
Outside the studio, I love spending time with my wife Sarah and our two children.
Like many of my clients, I'm trying to balance work, family and my own health.
I don't have it all figured out. I'm still working on my habits too.
I think that helps me understand what my clients are going through, because I'm living it myself.
